Open Gate Afternoon
An “open gate” event is taking place at the Rosemont Preserve on Sunday morning, Nov 18. Photographers: bring your camera to capture the morning light. Citizen scientists: bring your iNaturalist app to add your wildlife sightings!
The gate will be open from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m., and Friends of the Rosemont Preserve Committee members will be available to answer questions and present this community resource.
The Preserve is located at the north end of Rosemont Avenue, just past the chain link fence. As street parking is limited, please park at Two Strike Park, 5107 Rosemont Ave. Those planning on walking the trails should wear sturdy shoes.
This event is free to the public and suitable for all ages; no reservations required. Rain cancels. Sorry, no pets please.

Remembering Local Military at Christmas
It’s getting to be the time of year when the Veterans at American Legion Post 288 and VFW Post 1614 are “making their list and checking it twice.” They want to find the names of all the local military enlisted men and women who are not going to be home for Christmas. The veterans will send them a Christmas gift card to thank them for their service.
So, if you know someone from the La Crescenta area who is in the military and will be away from home for Christmas, please send their name, rank, branch of military service, and mailing address to the American Legion, P.O. Box 223, Montrose, CA 91021. You may email the information to mcginnix@aol.com. Please put “Military Christmas” in the subject box. We need this information by Dec. 1.

YMCA of the Foothills Tree Lot
Set To Open
The annual YMCA of the Foothills Tree Lot will be open to the public from Wednesday, Nov. 28 to Dec. 22. Trees on the lot are available in sizes from 2 feet to 12 feet tall in varieties such as Nordmann, Grand Firs, and Noble Firs and all trees are premium grade.
This tree lot has been around since 1965 and is operated as a social enterprise by the Y’s high school Youth in Business Club. This group of 75 high school students in partnership with the 290 high school Youth and Government delegates are dedicated to learning the skills of running a business.
Collectively these teens will contribute more than 3,000 hours of volunteer work, carry about 100,000 pounds of trees, and raise $50,000 toward the Thriving Kids Initiative to help cover YMCA fees for kids who qualify for assistance.
