1900 block of Verdugo Boulevard in La Cañada, a man reported that he had brought his vehicle to the United Artists Theater to the classic car gathering that occurs every Saturday. As is his practice and that of others, he opened the hood to display the car’s engine. He then walked around to look at other vehicles. When it was time to go he came back to his vehicle, closed the hood without examining the engine and drove off. While he was on the freeway, his vehicle began to smoke. He pulled over and called a tow truck. The mechanic reported finding the radiator cap had been unscrewed and was placed on top of the air filter box. It was found the engine had seized, which significantly damaged the engine. The owner of the vehicle didn’t realize the cap was off nor did he have any idea who might want to hurt him or his vehicle.
The vandalism to his vehicle occurred between 8 a.m. and 10 a.m.
