Mountain Avenue Elementary School held a Back to School Get Acquainted Picnic and Movie on its upper field on Friday, Sept. 7. The picnic and movie was a fundraiser for the sixth grade student field trip in May to Washington, D.C.

Students and parents volunteered to help out. The food served at the picnic included hot dogs, veggie burgers, chips, popcorn and drinks. There were also many fun items sold such as unicorn rings, inflatable hammers, fire hydrant squirters, unicorn horns, emoji balls and glow-in-the-dark items.

Principal Jaclyn Scott said, “This annual event is so much fun because it brings the Mountain Avenue family together. That is our theme this year, #Better Together.”

Over a hundred students and their families came to enjoy the picnic and movie as well as to help out at the fundraiser. Sammy Arias is a fifth grade student in Amber Hall’s class.

“I think the picnic is fun and a great family activity,” said Sammy. Valen Aznavourian, a sixth grade student in Kelly Schroeder’s class added, “The school picnic and movie is a very fun and a good experience for us.”

Vela Benedicto is also in Schroeder’s class. “I would like to thank everyone who is supporting our sixth grade trip to Washington, D.C.” she said.

At dusk after the barbecue, the families settled down into camp chairs or onto picnic blankets to enjoy watching the Disney classic “101 Dalmatians” on an inflatable screen set up outside for the evening.
