Student volunteer orientation at Descanso Gardens
Students interested in volunteering at Descanso Gardens can attend the next student volunteer orientation session on Saturday, May 22 at 9 a.m. Orientation is for students ages 14 and older. La Cañada Gladiator youth football and cheer signups
The La Cañada Gladiators Youth Football and Cheer program will conduct its only public registration for the 2010 season on Sunday, May 23. The Gladiators is open to girls and boys ages 6 to 14 as of Dec. 31, 2007. Early registration is suggested as spaces fill up quickly.
The Gladiators field one or two flag teams (depending on enrollment) and five tackle squads. The Gladiators also field 3-5 cheer teams (depending on enrollment). Placement on a football team is based on a combination of age and weight. For details, visit the web page at www.lcgladiators.org. Registration is also available by mail, and football and cheer applications can be downloaded from the Gladiator web page.
Registration will be held from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at La Cañada Memorial Park, 1201 Foothill Blvd., La Cañada Flintridge. Coaches and athletic directors will be on hand to answer any questions. This is the only chance to enroll at a public signup.
The Gladiator season begins on July 26 and playoffs conclude in mid-November. LINCOLN’S SPRING SPECTACULAR ON FRIDAY
Lincoln Elementary School’s Spring Spectacular takes place on Friday, May 21 from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the school’s playground.
The annual Spring Spectacular is a mini-carnival that is open to the public. There will be game and activity booths, food, rides and lots of fun. The annual popular community event welcomes Lincoln alumni of all ages who come back to visit and to help.
This year, the Spring Spectacular will feature Principal Bill Card’s band, prize redemption booth, In-N-Out truck, Korean Club dinner, Armenian Club dinner, sixth grade bake sale, slide obstacle course, watermelon eating contest and cake walk.
Lincoln Elementary School is located at 4310 New York Ave. in La Crescenta.

ST. FRANCIS HIGH SCHOOL DRUMLINE AND PERCUSSION ENSEMBLE ON FRIDAY
On Friday and Saturday, May 21 and May 22 the St. Francis High School Drumline & Percussion Ensemble, under the direction of Tye Gaddis, will be performing at 7:00 p.m. at the school Degheri Theater. St. Francis is located at 200 Foothill Blvd. in La Cañada Flintridge.

ONCE UPON A TIME HOSTS
‘FABULOUS FRIDAYS’

On Friday, May 21 at 6:30 p.m. award-winning Glendale author Amy Goldman Koss will be first in a series of informal get-together sessions for girls 12 years old and older at Once Upon A Time bookstore. Bring your BFF and chat about books, writing, the creative process and more. There will be free books, Amy will sign her books and there will be pizza and cupcakes.
