1st Annual California Jazz & Blues Museum Hall of Fame Inductee Ceremony Fundraiser

Renowned jazz and blues singer Barbara Morrison will present the 1st Annual California Jazz & Blues Museum Hall of Fame Inductee Ceremony Fundraiser and Barbara Morrison’s Birthday Celebration Concert at Catalina Jazz Club in Hollywood on Monday, Sept. 10. The event kicks off with red carpet arrivals and reception at 6 p.m., followed by the inductee ceremony at 7 p.m. culminating with performances by singer Barbara Morrison, the Karen Hernandez Trio and singers Angie Mack and Monica Doby at 8:30 p.m.

Aside from her prolific career as a legendary jazz and blues singer, Morrison also serves as the founder and president of the California Jazz & Blues Museum, which she opened in Leimert Park, California in 2017 to house artifacts of California jazz and blues musicians.

“The 1st Annual California Jazz & Blues Museum Hall of Fame Inductee Ceremony is a fundraiser for the Museum to develop our digital arts program, so we can introduce basic coding, Android development, organizational structures, basic computer competencies and create an interactive section in the Museum,” said Morrison. “[This] will give visitors an open source digital portal to the vast historical collection of jazz and blues available at the Museum and throughout Los Angeles. Our goal is to raise $25,000. Our inductee ceremony will recognize local, national and international jazz and blues legends for their contributions to the music industry.”

The inductee ceremony will be co-hosted by Jay Jackson (“Parks & Recreation,” former Emmy Award-winning reporter for CBS2/KCAL9) and Albert Edmund Lord III (deputy, Office of City Council President Herb J. Wesson Jr.). H.B. Barnum, Aretha Franklin’s music director of 25 years, will receive a Lifetime Achievement Award.

There will be an additional 25 induction ceremony honorees for 2018 that include Helen Borgers (jazz DJ/classical pianist, posthumous award to be accepted by her brother Ken Borgers); Mike and Carol Gliona (blues promoters); and Corky Hale (jazz harpist, singer and pianist).

Tickets for the fundraising event are $50 per person, plus dinner or a two-drink minimum per person. Reservations for the show and dinner can be made by calling Catalina Bar & Grill at (323) 466-2210 or online at www.catalinajazzclub.com. Valet parking is available.
