BYU Young Ambassadors Present “Harmony: The Music of Life”

The BYU Young Ambassadors, a world-renowned family entertainment group, will be performing “Harmony: The Music of Life” at the Glendale High School Auditorium on Tuesday, March 1 at 7:00 p.m. as part of their United States West Coast tour.

“Harmony” is a vibrant musical production featuring show tunes from Broadway plays and international hits that celebrate the unforgettable moments of life and growing up.

Kanya Bugreyev Exhibit at  Stephanie’s art gallery

Russian Impressionist Kanya Bugreyev is currently on exhibit at Stephanie’s Art Gallery through March 31. She is known for her use of bold strong brush strokes, vivid colors and transparent shadows. Over the past four decades, studying, teaching and painting she has developed her own unique impression of the relationship between color, light and nature.

Winemaking and Vineyard Management Class

The Stonebarn Vineyard Conservancy, along with the City of Glendale is hosting a series of classes on vineyard cultivation and home winemaking.  The next scheduled class, Vines and wine varieties, is Saturday, Feb. 26 at 9 a.m. at Deukmejian Wilderness Park . Moonday Poetry Series at Flintridge Bookstore

A new Moonday poetry series will take place at the new Flintridge Bookstore in La Cañada beginning with Hilda Weis, co-founder and artistic director of www.Poetry.LA, a website featuring videos of poets and poetry venues in Southern California. The series begins on Feb. 27 at 2 p.m.

The original Moonday was established in 2002 and continues its long run at Village Books in Pacific Palisades. Moonday is hosted by Alice Pero and Lois P. Jones. The readings will take place on the fourth Sunday of every month from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.

Flintridge Bookstore and Coffeehouse is located at 1010 Foothill Blvd., La Cañada Flintridge, at the intersection of Foothill Boulevard and the Angeles Crest Highway. Parking is in the rear of the store. For more information, call (818) 790-0717.

Camellia Shows Coming

to Descanso

Local camellia societies have two shows planned in coming weeks at Descanso Gardens. The public is invited to submit flowers for judging during the bloom placement portion of the shows. Entrance to camellia shows is free with Gardens admission. The Southern California Camellia Council Show will be held Saturday and Sunday, Feb. 26-27. The council is made up of representatives of all the camellia societies in Southern California. Blooms placement is 7 to 10:30 a.m. Saturday, followed by judging. The show is open to the public from 1 to 4:30 p.m. Saturday and 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday.

The Pacific Camellia Society Late Bloomers Show will be held Saturday and Sunday, March 12-13. Bloom placement is 8 to 10:30 a.m. Saturday, followed by judging. The show is open to the public from 1 to 4:30 p.m. Saturday and 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday.

Also at the Gardens is offering Composting 101 at 11 a.m. on Feb. 26. Learn the basics of making compost from garden and kitchen waste. Free with Gardens admission: $8 adults, $6 senior/students and $3 children 5-12.

A Heritage Oak Walk takes place on 11 a.m. on Feb. 26. Descanso Curator Wen Wang leads an informative walk focusing on Coast live oaks (Quercus agrifolia). Free with Gardens admission: $8 adults, $6 senior/students and $3 children 5-12. For more information call (818) 949-7980.

LEISURE CLUB HOSTING GUIDE DOG PRESENTATION

The Leisure Club of La Cañada Flintridge has gone to the dogs … The Guide Dogs of America, that is.

On March 4 at 1 p.m. Judy Reilly and her puppy Milo will address the Leisure Club of La Cañada Flintridge and describe how guide dogs are selected, trained and paired with visually impaired individuals.

The public is invited to this event being held at the Crescenta-Cañada YMCA. Parking is free and so are the refreshments !

Forest Lawn-Glendale to Host Michelangelo and

da Vinci

In March, as part of its History Comes Alive series, the Forest Lawn Museum will again present “A Visit With Michelangelo and Leonardo da Vinci,” an educational program featuring two of the world’s greatest artists, Michelangelo Buonarroti and Leonardo da Vinci.

Portrayed by accomplished actors Pablo Marz and Carl Weintraub, the two Renaissance artists will engage each other and the audience as they discuss their personal and professional lives and their most exquisite works of art. Following the program, there will be a question and answer segment for the audience.  It’s entertaining, educational and free.

“A Visit With Michelangelo and Leonardo da Vinci” takes on the Memorial Terrace in The Great Mausoleum-Forest Lawn – Glendale on Wednesday and Thursday, March 9-10 at 9:30 a.m. and 11:00 a.m.

This is a free event but  space is limited, so reservations are required.
