Oktoberfest is Here!

On Saturday, Oct. 5 from noon to 10 p.m., Oktoberfest will be celebrated in Montrose!

We have all your favorites – brauts, German dinner, D’Oberlander Dancers, the German American Brass Band, rides, games, contests and closing out the night with ’80s cover band the Past Action Heroes.

But none of this happens without the people behind the scenes. This year the MVCC wants to take a moment to thank all those who work behind the scenes to bring to our community here in Montrose one of the largest Oktoberfests in the LA region.

Those behind the scenes are the volunteers who donate their time, effort and expertise every year for this event. Volunteers range in age from high school students to our retired residents; we have it all. We appreciate the efforts of everyone and would like to showcase a few who continually show up when called upon.

Ellen DeAngelis and Scott Corr-Robinett. This is our information booth duo. They provide level-headed thinking and are available when the public needs information and direction. When the MVCC has an event, and they are available, the contribution of their time and effort is invaluable.

Patricia Larrigan – GPD retiree, Glendale Kiwanis Past President, CNH Div. 3 Lt. Governor Elect. She is another community member who answers the call to volunteer when she is available. Her experience and knowledge brings a level of assistance that we are so grateful to receive. In true form, Patricia has also brought along other volunteers who provide the same level of participation that she provides.

DJ Ernie – video jock and a video production specialist. Ernie has emceed and stage-managed the Bavarian Stage for years. Lucky for the MVCC Ernie will be back to assist in the fun that comes out of the Bavarian Stage. If you need services, he’s your DJ/video jock: vjevideojock@gmail.com.

The interns of MVCC. These students from CVHS, GHS and GCC come into the office and assist with compiling forms, gathering and executing the student volunteer tasks and duties, and provide graphics services. We in the office have learned a lot and understand that these interns have a better handle on marketing graphics and social media than we do. Kayla, Michele, Lucy, Ashley, Emily and Liana – each of these office interns brings a level of joy and commitment that shows in the work they do.

Booth volunteers. These are businesses and organizations that staff and run the booths on behalf of the chamber. From ID check to pretzels and snacks to the combo and dinner area booths, this is a large-scale effort. Many of the businesses and organizations have been doing this for decades. They know what to do and how to execute and always perform their duties with enthusiasm that matches the festivities.

Thank you to each of the booth sponsors and volunteers: ID booths –  Jenkins Properties, community individuals, Kiwanis of Glendale, Glendale Sunrise Rotary and La Crescenta Woman’s Club. Dinner area – Dilbeck La Crescenta/La Cañada. Combos: Rossmoyne, Inc., Berkshire Hathaway/Crest Real Estate, Coldwell Banker Hallmark Realty and the Elks Lodge No. 1289.

Wine booths: CV Weekly and Casa Cordoba. Snack: Heart of Lending and the Boy Scouts, via Harriet Hammons. Pretzel booths: GCC Scholars. German beer: State Farm-Chris Aristo, S.I.G., My Budget Realty, Re/Max Tri-City and Compass. Beer trailers: Montrose Search & Rescue, Knights of Columbus and Allure Travel.

We also have block captains who will tend to each block, the booths on the block and the vendors servicing the block. This gives the volunteers the support and bridges the information and needs from the booth to the vendors. Thank you for stepping up: Raffi Ashdjian of GASCU, Mark Nolte, Anna Lopez of Bouldevard 34, Ani Simonian of American Savings & Loans FS, Nancy Rappard, Karen Grichowicki of Panache Hair & Nail and Analilly Park.

If you are interested in volunteering for any events and/or being an MVCC ambassador, please submit information to mvcc@montrosechamber.org.

We know it “takes a village.” We appreciate each and everyone who contributes their time and talent to the Montrose community.
