Community-Wide Adaptive Aquatic Programs Open for All

In September the YMCA of the Foothills, in partnership with Tierra del Sol, has launched special adaptive programs to benefit all families interested in aquatic programming and fitness.

The Adaptive Aquatic Fitness Class will offer teens and adults with disabilities – ages 15 to 80 – the opportunity to exercise in a safe environment while creating friendships. All abilities are welcome and all skills will be adapted and modified as needed. The program is offered Mondays and Wednesdays from 3:30 p.m.-4:15 p.m.

The program Inclusion Splash and Play for All will offer children with differing abilities, ages 5 to 12 years old, a chance to play and learn fundamental movement skills in a safe and fun environment. This class will be offered Mondays and Wednesdays from 4:15 p.m.-5 p.m. and from 5 p.m. to 5:45 p.m.

Adaptive swim programming for children was launched earlier this year at the Y and has received high praise from parents in the community. Kayo Y., mother of a current child participant, said, “The Adaptive Swim Program is a great program offered by the YMCA for my son with autism. It’s provided me with relief in knowing his swimming skills are improving.”

Both of the new programs in partnership with Tierra del Sol – Adaptive Aquatic Fitness Class and Inclusion Splash and Play for All Program – will be offered at the Y Sunland location at 9929 Sunland Blvd. All the classes are free to the entire community and spots are limited. The mission of the YMCA of the Foothills is to organize, develop, finance and conduct programs for an association of persons of all ages that will, by putting Christian principles into practice, enrich the quality of their lives spiritually, mentally, physically and socially.
