Fiesta de Las Luminarias

Glendale Beautiful invites the community to the Fiesta de Las Luminarias on Friday and Saturday, Dec. 11 & 12, at the historic Casa Adobe de San Rafael in Glendale. Come see the adobe in all its holiday splendor and enjoy traditional refreshments and entertainment. All events are free.

Open house and luminarias is Friday, Dec. 11 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. with Gerry Keeling’s piano students in recital at 6:30 p.m. On Saturday, Dec. 12 the open house and luminarias are from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. with the Hoover HS choir, Amy Estep, director, performing at 6:30 p.m.

Children’s piñata party is Saturday, Dec. 12 from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. with the Horace Mann Elementary folkloric dancers, Chris Burt, director, performing at 2 p.m.

Restoration Day at Rosemont Preserve

A restoration day at the Rosemont Preserve is being held on Saturday, Dec. 12 from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Volunteers will be planting some trees as well as continuing the removal of invasives around the Preserve. The demonstration garden needs some weeding as well.

The Preserve is located in La Crescenta at the north end of Rosemont Avenue, just past the chain link fence. Parking is available at Two Strike Park 5107 Rosemont Ave., La Crescenta.

Those who plan to attend should wear sturdy shoes, comfortable work clothes and garden gloves (long pants and sleeves are recommended). Volunteers who have any of the following tools, please consider bringing them: shovels, spades, loppers, hatchets, clippers. Other tools and equipment will be available. Rain cancels.

HSCV Christmas Party

All are invited to a Christmas party by the Historical Society of the Crescenta Valley on Monday, Dec. 14 at 7 p.m. at the La Crescenta Library community room.

Entertainment will be silent movies featuring Crescenta Valley’s “Silent Movie Man” Joe Renaudo utilizing his vintage hand-cranked projector, with live music accompanying.

Dessert potluck. Please bring finger-food type snacks or treats to share.

Drinks will be provided. Historical photos will be on display. Local history books offered for sale. Friends of Rockhaven memorabilia available.

Annual Faculty/Alumni Dance Show at GCC

The annual Glendale Community College Faculty/Alumni Dance Production will be held over three days with four performances on the Auditorium main stage beginning Friday, Dec. 11.

Performances are on Friday, Dec. 11 at 8 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 12 at 2 p.m. and 8 p.m. and on Sunday, Dec. 13 at 2 p.m. Admission is free. Seating is on a first come first served basis. Early arrival is advised. Children under five years old are not admitted.

Dancers in the show include students enrolled in the GCC jazz performance skills class. The choreography is by faculty, students, alumni and guests.
