Students Provide Hope and Courage at Adventist Health Glendale

CV high school students, AHGL staff and Dr. Sara Kim gathered at the Cancer Center.

Every patient’s journey is Adventist Health Glendale’s mission to heal and provide compassionate care. This support extends beyond the hospital walls and also comes from a dedicated community. This holiday season, over 40 boxes of “hope and courage” were delivered to the hospital’s Cancer Center by the Crescenta Valley High School Healing Hands Club. Each box was filled with uplifting notes and gifts such as lotion, fuzzy socks and warm scarves, all collected from donations and packaged by the high school students.

“Bringing hope and courage to those battling cancer is the purpose for the boxes,” said Sione Markarian, senior at CV High School and founder of the Healing Hands Club. “The club’s mission since 2015 has been to collaborate with hospitals to raise awareness about health and wellness at school, and give back to local hospitals that do so much for our community.”

The room was filled with joy and gratitude from patients who received the boxes.

“This kind gesture meant a lot to us,” said cancer survivor and Adventist Health Glendale patient Guadalupe Mendoza. “When we feel the support of those around us, we gain a tremendous amount of courage and strength to continue to fight cancer. We loved the hope and courage boxes!”

The Cancer Center offers additional options for patients to receive support and healing of the mind, body and spirit, as well as reduces stress related to a diagnosis and treatment. All survivorship program services are community-supported and offered free to any cancer survivor/patient in Glendale, regardless of where they received treatment.
