News from CV Alliance

Hi, CV!

Will I see you in September?

Friday, Sept. 5 from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. is our quarterly Strategic Partners meeting at USC Verdugo Hills Hospital in the fourth floor council rooms. Join people working here and in the greater community helping us to prevent underage drug and alcohol use. In fact, you’ll see many of these partners throughout the month.

Saturday, Sept. 6 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., we’ll be at the Prom Plus 20th Anniversary Celebration Picnic at CV Park, 3901 Dunsmore Ave. in La Crescenta. Stop by and get some ink!

On Thursday, Sept. 11 from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., “How the Adolescent Brain Learns” is the topic of Tina Givrad’s, PhD, talk. This is free and open to all who work with someone, raise someone and/or has a teenage brain. We are thrilled to bring Tina back to CV High School’s Library, 2900 Community Ave., and to have her kick off our “Teen Trials & Tribulations: A series of 4 talks” series.

On Saturday, Sept. 13 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., we’re co-sponsoring a free conference, “Healthy Living in a Changing World: Integrating health care from a holistic perspective,” at Glendale Community College in the auditorium. It’s open to the public and includes professional panelists, including Sona Hovsepian from our board of directors! Free lunch, raffle prizes and free parking in the upper parking structure; enter on Mountain Street. For information, call (818) 638-5407.

On Thursday, Sept. 18 at 7 p.m., members of our Youth Alliance will share their experience at this summer’s National Youth Leadership Institute at the CADCA meeting (Community Anti-Drug Coalitions of America) before the CV Town Council. Come to the public library meeting room and hear their plans for addressing the prevalence of underage drinking in our valley.

On Saturday, Sept. 27 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. is the semi-annual DEA Prescription Drug Take Back! Gather up all unwanted, old, unused medicines and bring them to our drop-off centers – locations to be announced shortly. No needles, syringes, or lancets; please take them to the Sheriff’s Station at 4554 Briggs Ave. in La Crescenta where it’s take back daily. Clean out your cabinets!

Thank you for all of your support and kind words! We appreciate you, too!
