LETTER TO THE EDITOR

Its all up the the CVWD Board of Directors

First, we would like to express our sincere gratitude to the CVWD District and board of directors for hosting a highly professional public meeting on June 10. Customers expressed concerns about multiple rate increases and the difficulty in understanding the impact on their bills. They inquired about the proposed budget, which includes triple-digit increases in expenses while the District claims to maintain cost control. There were complaints about what appeared to be wasteful use of water from multi- family units. The absence of quantifiable cost reduction objectives arose again after asking for six years. The new mystical “Pass Through” verbiage in the public notice needs more explanation, which we believe may be another concealed charge hidden under Prop 218.

We have elected our board of directors to be our financial watchdogs over these uncertainties, helping the district navigate these complex issues and develop a fair and reasonable budget. But in the end we have empowered the board of directors to act in the best interest of ratepayers. Stand by as the next and final budget meeting is schedule for June 24 and we will see if the comments and concerns expressed by customers had any impact with our elected board of directors and the water district.
