NEWS FROM THE CVTC

Reflecting on the Previous School Year, Preparing for the New School Year

As the school year winds down and the summer heat rolls into the foothills, the Crescenta Valley Town Council (CVTC) has been busy reflecting on a fantastic academic year, advocating for local safety and preparing for a vibrant summer season.

Here is an update on what is happening in our community.

A Heartfelt Thank You to Our Crossing Guards~

As the final school bells ring, the CVTC recently took a moment to acknowledge a vital group of unsung heroes in our neighborhood: our school crossing guards. Day in and day out, rain or shine, these dedicated individuals serve as shining examples of community service. They do far more than just direct traffic; they are on the front lines ensuring the safety of our students, our four-legged pets and every resident navigating our streets. If you see them on their final shifts of the year, please join us in thanking them for keeping our neighborhoods safe.

Supporting the Next Generation: CVTC Scholarships~

Investing in our youth is a cornerstone of our community’s future. The CVTC is incredibly proud to announce that five outstanding high school seniors have been awarded council scholarships to help fuel their upcoming educational journeys.

We would like to extend an immense thank you to our generous local sponsors who made these specific awards possible:

  • ACE Hardware: For sponsoring the Tools for Your Future Scholarship.
  • The Traber Family: For sponsoring the Charles K. Beatty Scholarship.

Supporting our students demonstrates their immense effort and hard work are recognized not just by their schools, but by the greater community. We are incredibly proud of these seniors and cannot wait to see what they achieve next.

Continuing the Dialogue on Affordable Housing~

The CVTC remains actively engaged in discussions with Los Angeles County and state officials regarding the proposed affordable housing development in unincorporated La Crescenta.

Community concerns remain sharply focused on public safety, specifically regarding emergency evacuation scenarios. In a foothill community susceptible to environmental hazards, ensuring our infrastructure and roadways can handle safe evacuation routes is paramount. We will continue to advocate fiercely for local transparency, rigorous safety studies and ensure the voices of our residents are prioritized by regional decision-makers.

A Reminder to Drivers as Summer Steps In~

With summer about to be in full swing, our local streets and sidewalks are changing. Longer days mean residents are taking advantage of cooler evening walks, and school breaks mean an increase in outdoor activities like bike riding.

A crucial reminder to all drivers: Please slow down, and walkers and bike riders also, please eliminate distractions and remain highly mindful of your surroundings. Let’s work together to ensure this summer is safe and enjoyable for pedestrians and cyclists alike.
