LETTERS TO THE EDITOR

Open Letter to CVTC

Dear Members of the Crescenta Valley Town Council,

I am writing to express my urgent concern regarding the excessive speeding on Orange Avenue, particularly the stretch between Rosemont and La Crescenta avenues. As this area is home to an elementary school, the safety of the children and residents must be prioritized to prevent what could tragically become a fatal accident.

The current lack of adequate traffic calming measures has led to drivers routinely exceeding safe speeds on this residential street. This poses an ongoing danger not only to schoolchildren walking to and from school but also to families and pedestrians who use this route daily. I believe that installing at least two sets of speed bumps along this stretch would significantly reduce speeding and improve overall safety.

One concern that has been previously raised by county officials in discussions about speed bumps is the potential impact on emergency vehicles. While it is true that speed bumps can slightly slow emergency response times, this should not outweigh the pressing need to protect the lives of schoolchildren and residents in this high-risk area. Furthermore, studies have shown that strategically designed speed bumps, such as flat-top or sinusoidal bumps, can minimize delays for emergency vehicles while still effectively reducing speeding. These designs allow for smoother transitions and can balance the need for safety with the necessity of rapid emergency response.

Ultimately, the presence of speed bumps on Orange Avenue would prevent accidents and reduce the likelihood of emergency services needing to respond to severe collisions caused by speeding. This proactive measure would create a safer environment for the entire community, reducing risks rather than reacting to the consequences of inaction.

I urge you to consider this request seriously and take swift action before an avoidable tragedy occurs. Please let me know if additional community support, signatures or resources are needed to move this proposal forward.

Thank you for your attention to this critical matter. I trust that the council will recognize the importance of addressing this issue promptly.

Respectfully,

The Citizens and Community of La Crescenta and Orange Avenue

Displeased with Najarian

I’m writing to voice my opposition, concern and overall disappointment in Ara Najarian.

As an Armenian living in Glendale, with children attending our public schools, quite frankly I’m tired of all [of] his nonsense.

He is a person who has spread blatant lies about our public school district [and] has held the city council and some of the council members hostage to his lies and gibberish.

Najarian was passed over as mayor for telling dangerous lies about our public schools. He has no children in these schools and no connection or affiliations to them. He never talked to the school board or superintendent to get facts and truth. GUSD is a large employer in Glendale and serves 25,000 children.

The role of mayor is largely ceremonial and there are disqualifying behaviors. Najarian disqualified himself when he attacked our community and spread dangerous lies about children!

Mr. Najarian has unsuccessfully tried to sue the city to get his “mayor” status. The attorney of that lawsuit was his own son. The lawsuit cost our city nearly $10,000. Najarian has continually reversed and/or stalled progress on existing growth and development because of lack of support for small business or anything environmentally friendly.

Honestly, the city is so much better without him. And I cannot wait to vote him out once and for all. I hope voters all across the city will join me in 2026.
