The start of the new high school basketball season tipped off this week at Crescenta Valley High School as the each level of the Falcons boys’ teams competed in the annual alumni game Wednesday night at CV High School.

As Coach Shawn Zargarian took the sideline to coach his boys, both John Goffredo and Jim Smiley were leading the alumni squad on the other side of the scorer’s table. Goffredo attended Burroughs High School but coached the Falcons for 19 years until the late 1990s when Smiley, one of Goffredo’s former players, took over the program.

The varsity, junior varsity and soph/frosh teams all played in a scrimmage against Alemany High School this past week as well.  The varisty, captioned this year by senior Eric Bae and junior Berj Krikorian, will next play in the San Fernando Invitational from Dec. 2 to Dec. 7. The JV will play in a tournament at Eastside High School from Dec. 4 to Dec. 7, and the soph/frosh will play at Hart High School from Dec. 3 to Dec. 6.
