Strong Showing in FIBA U16 Games

Crescenta Valley girls’ basketball players Ava Gharib and Kelin Shajanian returned July 16 from Gibraltar, Spain after completing a strong campaign in the FIBA U16 championships. 

FIBA, the International Basketball Federation, is the world governing body for basketball. Founded in 1932, FIBA brings together 212 national basketball federations from all over the world.
FIBA organizes and oversees international competitions that include the FIBA Basketball World Cup, the Olympic Basketball Tournament and 3×3 basketball.

Both Gharib and Shajanian were team leaders for the amateur championship with Gharib averaging 12 points and 10.8 rebounds per game with a standout game of 16 points and 17 rebounds and six assists against Georgia.

Shajanian led the team with 12.8 points and three assists a game. Shajanian enjoyed a 34-point breakout with three assists against Moldova securing a place in the lower bracket. 

The girls’ record was 2-3, winning lower bracket by beating Georgia.
