On Tuesday, the Crescenta Valley High School varsity softball team took the field against Glendale High School. A little less than an 90 minutes later, the Falcons had clinched another victory in their quest to a Pacific League title.

This win came of the shutout variety with a final score of 10-0. In the fifth inning, the Falcons’ lea grew to 15, triggering the mercy rule and effectively ending the game. It was an all-around solid performance from the Falcons’ offense, with eight different players recording at least one run batted in. The Falcons had averaged 15.6 runs per game in Pacific League play, and Tuesday was just another example of how dominant this squad can be at the plate.

On the mound, the Falcons’ ace DeeDee Hernandez was masterful. She has been gaining exposure throughout the season for potential postseason awards, and Tuesday was just another start she can add to her resumé. The sophomore was fooling Glendale hitters all afternoon, and showed once again why she is the best pitcher the Pacific League has to offer. For good measure, Hernandez also hit a pitch into the street while on offense.

Today the Falcons will travel to Burbank and to Muir on Tuesday before hosting Arcadia in the final game of the season at CVHS. Arcadia is Crescenta Valley’s biggest threat for a Pacific League title, so the Falcons will have to play their best games to finish out the season ahead of playoffs.
