LCIF to Host Book Club Meetup and Blood Drive

Lutheran Church in the Foothills (LCIF) will hold its next book club gathering on Monday, Aug. 17 at 1 p.m. in the church’s conference room to discuss the first part of “Personal History” by Katharine Graham. Graham’s Pulitzer Prize–winning memoir chronicles her journey from a privileged upbringing and early family life to her unexpected emergence as one of the most powerful women in American journalism. All interested community members and avid readers are welcome to attend the discussion. LCIF’s book club meets monthly. The selection for September is part two of Graham’s memoir.

In addition to its monthly gathering, LCIF will partner with the American Red Cross to host a community blood drive on Thursday, Sept. 17 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The drive comes as the Red Cross faces a persistent national blood supply shortage, driven by lower seasonal donor turnout and surging hospital demand. Type O blood products, critical for emergency procedures and trauma care, remain in particularly short supply. Every single

donation helps replenish vital local supplies and can save up to three lives. Donors can schedule an appointment in advance at redcrossblood.org. Walk-in donors are also welcome throughout the day.

LCIF also invites all to attend Sunday worship at 10 a.m., led by Pastor Viv Vega. Children’s Church is held concurrently and includes a Bible lesson, games, craft and a snack.

Waterpalooza! at La Crescenta Presbyterian Church 

Build friendships and beat the heat at Waterpalooza!, an afternoon of waterslides, water games and wet, wild fun at La Crescenta Presbyterian Church on Saturday, Aug. 29 from 1-3 p.m.

Families in the community are welcome at this free event, hosted by LCPC Children’s Ministries. Parents must stay with their children for the entirety of the event.

Angels, Ghosts and Other Beliefs with Debbie DelMar

Most have had moments in life that can’t be fully explained – a coincidence, a powerful intuition or an experience that made us pause and wonder. This presentation by retired Disney executive and attorney Debbie DelMar explores whether consciousness might exist beyond the brain and whether people occasionally tap into something larger than themselves. Using stories ranging from personal strange mental awakenings to famous predictions and even insights from an astronaut looking back at Earth from space, the talk invites curiosity, reflection and the sharing of a few mysteries from our own lives.

CSL Offers Gentle Movement Class

The Center for Spiritual Living – La Crescenta is offering a gentle stretch and relax chair movement with Michelle Gillette. It takes place every Friday from 10 to 11 a.m. The cost is a $10 donation.
