Kleinsasser to Present at UUCVH

On July 12, the Sunday service of the Unitarian Universalist Church of the Verdugo Hills (UUCVH) welcomes Eric Kleinsasser to share his sermon: On the Psychological Benefits of Photographing Birds. 

There are many things in our existence for which no instructions are provided. Everyone navigates life through the lens of their own mind, composing their instruction manual along the way. This is a story about how a simple hobby wrote an unexpected chapter in Kleinsasser’s own manual.

Lutheran Church Welcomes Guest Pastor; Launches Donation Drive

Lutheran Church in the Foothills (LCIF) will welcome guest pastor the Rev.

Eric Shafer during its worship service on Sunday, July 12 at 10 a.m. Shafer serves with Global Refuge, a faith-based non-profit that has provided services to refugees and immigrants for more than 85 years. Formerly known as Lutheran Immigration and Refugee Service, the organization’s mission is to welcome and empower people seeking safety and a fresh start.

Global Refuge’s support services include housing assistance, legal services, language and financial literacy classes, as well as help in finding a job.

As a representative of Global Refuge, Shafer works closely with Lutheran congregations to strengthen awareness of the organization’s ministry. The community is invited to attend the service and hear Shafer’s message of faith, compassion and hospitality. LCIF will be taking a special offering for Global Refuge during the service.

In addition, LCIF is accepting donations of school supplies to help those in need. Items needed are Pink Pearl-style erasers, unsharpened pencils, blue and black ink pens, small crayons (box of 24 colors), and blunt tip scissors. New backpacks are also needed. Donations can be dropped off at Sunday service or left at the church office.

CSL Offers Gentle Movement Class

The Center for Spiritual Living – La Crescenta is offering a gentle stretch and relax chair movement with Michelle Gillette. It takes place every Friday from 10 to 11 a.m. The cost is a $10 donation.

The class is at Chaffee Hall in the Center for Spiritual Living – La Crescenta.
