Lutheran Church Available to Community

Local history buffs, travel enthusiasts and residents looking to explore the roots of early Christianity are invited to step back in time this month for a special

visual journey through the ancient world. Pastor Tim Singleton of Mt. Olive Lutheran Church in La Crescenta will host a slideshow presentation on Wednesday, June 10 at 7 p.m. in the fellowship hall at Lutheran Church in the Foothills (LCIF). The event marks the first public presentation showcasing the joint journey undertaken last year by members of both local congregations. The tour, billed as both “In the Footsteps of Paul” and a “Pilgrimage to Greece,”

allowed participants to retrace the historic and spiritual routes of the Apostle Paul. The slide show presentation will cover the key aspects of Paul’s biblical pilgrimage, while sharing the personal memories made by church members on the trip.

In addition, LCIF will hold its next “Women Gather” Bible study on Tuesday, June 9 from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. in the church’s conference room. The Bible study group meets twice a month, offering local women a consistent place to reflect and connect. All are welcome to attend, and no RSVP is required.

LCIF invites local bookworms to attend its next book club meeting on Monday, June 15 at 1 p.m. in the church’s conference room. The June selection is “A Guardian and a Thief” by Megha Majumdar.

Additionally, LCIF will hold its next Surviving Widows group on Tuesday, June 16 at a private residence. Please contact the church office for the location and to RSVP for the event. Widowers are also welcome to attend this monthly support group.

Walk and Word

Walk and Word participants will meet in the parking lot of Deukmejian Wilderness Park, 3429 Markridge Road in La Crescenta/Glendale at 8 a.m. on June 11, 18 & 25. Participants will walk for the first hour and then gather to read a selection of Scripture. About a half hour will be spent journaling about what was read and then there will be conversation, sharing thoughts.

Participants are asked to bring something to write with, anything wanted to eat or drink, and a chair to use for the writing part of the morning. Because people will be outdoors and social distancing will be practiced, masks will be optional.

Those with questions can email Jeanne at jnlavieri@earthlink.net.

All are welcome. If the hike is too strenuous, there are level paths at the park. There are ramps from the parking lot to the field where the group gathers.
