Lutheran Church to Celebrate Day of Pentecost
Lutheran Church in the Foothills (LCIF) welcomes all to celebrate the Day of Pentecost on Sunday, May 24. Celebrated 50 days after Easter, the Day of Pentecost marks the historic culmination of the Easter season and is widely recognized as the “birthday” of the Christian Church. The festival commemorates the biblical account of the Holy Spirit descending upon Jesus’ disciples, empowering them to preach the gospel in diverse languages to people from many nations.
LCIF Pastor Viv Vega said, “The Day of Pentecost reminds us that the Spirit is still alive and moving among us in beautiful and powerful ways.”
Vega extends a warm invitation to the community to join in the celebration. “After worship, stick around for coffee, snacks and conversation in a super casual setting where neighbors can simply get to know one another. Sit for a while, chat about life, ask questions, laugh a little or just enjoy being together. Heck, I’ll be there too – and you can ask me whatever questions you’d like” said Vega, adding, “Let’s meet. Let’s talk. Because we know life can be hard sometimes, but the Spirit is alive – and it’s alive in every person you’ll meet here at LCIF: the Spirit of truth and justice, compassion and understanding, grace and peace and, above all, the Spirit of love.”
Day of Pentecost worship at LCIF begins at 10 a.m. with fellowship time following the service.
Children’s Church is offered during worship time.

Walk and Word participants will meet in the parking lot of Deukmejian Wilderness Park, 3429 Markridge Road in La Crescenta/Glendale at 8 a.m. on May 24 & 31. Participants will walk for the first hour and then gather to read a selection of Scripture. About a half hour will be spent journaling about what was read and then there will be conversation, sharing thoughts.
Participants are asked to bring something to write with, anything wanted to eat or drink, and a chair to use for the writing part of the morning. Because people will be outdoors and social distancing will be practiced, masks will be optional.
Those with questions can email Jeanne at jnlavieri@earthlink.net.
All are welcome. If the hike is too strenuous, there are level paths at the park. There are ramps from the parking lot to the field where the group gathers after the hike.
