LCIF Observes Holy Week

Lutheran Church in the Foothills (LCIF) on Sunday will continue its celebration of the Easter season with a focus on finding hope and meaning in everyday life. All are invited. In the church calendar used by LCIF’s governing body, the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America, Easter isn’t just one day – it’s a 50-day season that begins on Easter Sunday and continues until Pentecost on May 31. This coming Sunday, LCIF’s worship will reflect on the Resurrection, and the Bible story of travelers who encounter a stranger along

the road who they later realize is the risen Jesus. All are welcome to attend LCIF’s weekly Sunday worship with Pastor Viv Vega. Worship begins at 10 a.m. Children’s Church is offered at the same time and includes a Bible lesson, crafts, games and snacks.

LCIF also invites local book lovers to its next book club meetup on Monday, April 20 at 1 p.m. in the church’s conference room. The discussion will center on the novel, “Violeta” by Isabel Allende. Looking ahead, the club has selected “How to Read a Book” by Monica Wood for its May meeting.

For more information about all activities at LCIF, please visit the church’s redesigned website: lcifoothills.org. The website includes a link to livestream worship services for those unable to attend in person.

Discover Ever Present Love Active in Your Life

Janet Hagerty, practitioner of Christian Science healing, will speak on April 19 at 2 p.m. at Descanso Gardens, Gathering Rm A. This free talk, open to the community, is co-hosted by First Church of Christ, Scientist in La Cañada Flintridge and First Church of Christ, Scientist in Glendale (Montrose).

“At the heart of everything we deal with, love might be what it is all about,” Hagerty said. “A view of Love as God can bring more thoughtful, tender affection to relationships.”

She illustrates how people can prove for themselves the effectiveness of precepts from the Holy Bible and Christ Jesus’ life and teachings, sharing modern examples of the connection between spiritual love and physical healing. She will touch on the life of Mary Baker Eddy, author of Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, who taught what she felt was original Christian healing.

Hagerty travels from St. Louis, Missouri and speaks to audiences around the world as a member of the Christian Science Board of Lectureship.

Participants will walk for the first hour and then gather to read a selection of Scripture. About a half hour will be spent journaling about what was read and then there will be conversation, sharing thoughts.

Participants are asked to bring something to write with, anything wanted to eat or drink, and a chair to use for the writing part of the morning. Because people will be outdoors and social distancing will be practiced, masks will be optional.

Those with questions can email Jeanne at jnlavieri@earthlink.net.

All are welcome. If the hike is too strenuous, there are level paths at the park. There are ramps from the parking lot to the field where the group gathers after the hike.
