Cynthia (Dinsman) Scroggins

May 15, 1944 – Jan. 28, 2025

It is with heavy hearts that the passing of Cynthia “Cindy” Dinsman Scroggins is announced. Cindy was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, friend and extra mom to many. She died on Jan. 28 at the age of 80.

Cynthia was born on May 15, 1944 in Burbank and spent her life dedicated to family, learning and serving her community of La Crescenta.

Cindy is survived by her loving husband of 59 years Carl Scroggins; daughters Cassie Beasley (Jim), Carrie Petersen (Jason), and Cheri Jones (Keith); stepdaughter Lisa Wurl; grandsons Zack Petersen, Joshua Petersen, Corey Hall and Chad Beasley; granddaughters Candace Sigston and Kaylee Boster; and many great-grandchildren, granddogs and extended family who will miss her deeply.

Cindy’s career path was varied but her greatest joy and passion was always her family. A dedicated mother and grandmother, she found fulfillment in every role – whether as a Girl Scout leader, a volunteer at her daughters’ schools or as a constant presence at her grandchildren’s activities. Her commitment to her family was unwavering, from after-school fun and trips to the zoo to camping trips in Carpinteria, sports games and even chauffeuring her grandsons to school events and practices. Her dedication to her community was evident in her consistent volunteer work and the countless hours she dedicated to helping others through Crescenta Valley Town Council, GUSD PTA and Prom Plus. She and Carl also worked at the CV High School snack bar for over 30 football seasons.

In her younger years, after graduating from Hoover High School in 1962, Cindy pursued a math degree at Cal State LA, though the challenges of being a woman in the field during the 1960s led her to shift paths. She later studied child development, a field she was naturally drawn to. While in her 50s she returned to Glendale College, studying accounting and computers, always eager to learn and grow. This enabled her to have a second career later in life after raising her three daughters.

Her love for family, friends and life itself radiated in everything she did. She will be remembered for her selflessness, her wit, her laughter and her ability to make everyone feel loved and supported.

A celebration of Cindy’s life will be held on Saturday, May 17 from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the Dunsmore Park Community Room in La Crescenta. Friends and family are invited to join us in remembering her beautiful spirit.
