Geronima Gomez Naguit

Geronima Gomez Naguit was born on Sept. 30, 1934 in Tondo, Manila, Philippines and she passed away on Jan. 15 in Glendale. She was the third child of Jose Gomez and Flora Tolentino.

Geronima obtained her bachelor of science in education degree from the University of Santo Tomas and a master degree in education. For over 30 years she was a dedicated physical education teacher at the President Osmena High School in Manila.

She met her first husband Cresencio Naguit in Minalin, Pampanga while she was a teacher at the Minalin Academy. They were married on May 8, 1963 and were blessed with three children – Regina, Allan, and Paul. With the unexpected death of Cresencio in 1969, she became very independent and persevered in rearing her three very young children on her own.

In 1993, she married Jose Manabat. They were together for 12 years until she was widowed once again in 2008.

With the migration of her three children to the United States, she was a frequent visitor, traveling back and forth between the US and the Philippines. In June 2004, she finally made La Crescenta, California her home.

Geronima was an independent spirit: honest, headstrong and proud. This instilled in her children a profound sense of love, pride and gratitude to their mother – a legacy more precious than any earthly possession.

She is survived by her children and their spouses: Regina and Roly Quizon, Allan and Cheryl Naguit, and Paul and Cecille Naguit; and her grandchildren AJ, Geralyn, Jessica, Anica, Gerald and Allister.
