Winter Toy Giveaway in Need of Donated Toys
The Los Angeles County Dept. of Parks and Recreation is hosting its annual winter toy giveaway on Saturday, Dec. 18 at the Crescenta Valley Community Regional Park, 3901 Dunsmore Ave. in La Crescenta and is looking for toy donations.

Each year LA County Parks and Rec hosts this event for families that need a little help from Santa to make their holidays more festive. Toys are needed for children from ages 1 to 14. Toys, or gift cards, can be dropped off at the CV Park office from 10:30 a.m. to 8:30 p.m.

Saturday’s free event will include a picture with Santa Claus, a continental breakfast, toy giveaway and holiday stockings. (Breakfast, toys and stockings will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis.) In addition this year “Tim Burton’s Nightmare Before Christmas” presented by The Balcony of LA will be shown at 9:30 a.m., 10:45 a.m. and 12:30 p.m.

The winter toy giveaway is Saturday, Dec. 18 from 9 a.m. to noon. For more information, call the park office at (818) 249-5940.

Rosemont Preserve Open Gate Morning
An “open gate” event is taking place at the Rosemont Preserve on Sunday morning, Dec. 19. This is a chance for residents to visit the Preserve and wander the trail at their own pace and enjoy the tranquil setting, the wildlife and the natural beauty. Photographers: bring your camera to capture the morning light and citizen scientists, bring your iNaturalist app to add wildlife sightings!

The gate will be open from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m., and Friends of the Rosemont Preserve Committee members will be available to answer questions and present this community resource. The Preserve is located at the north end of Rosemont Avenue, just past the chain link fence. As street parking is limited, please park at Two Strike Park, 5107 Rosemont Ave. Those with mobility issues who require a closer parking spot should contact the Rosemont Preserve Committee.

Those planning on walking the trails should wear sturdy shoes.

This event is free to the public and suitable for all ages; no reservations required. Rain cancels. Sorry, no pets please.
