In addition to donating to various causes, this time of year brings Santa out for a quick visit.

For the last several years, Santa Claus has visited various neighborhoods within the City of Glendale accompanied by members of the Glendale Police Dept. This year is no different as the “jolly old elf” makes his way across Glendale neighborhoods once again.

For those living on the west side of Glendale, Santa and his entourage will be making their way through neighborhoods on Dec. 13. On Dec. 14, look for him on the east side of town; on Dec. 18 he’ll make his way through the north side, which includes the Crescenta Valley, and on Dec. 19 he’ll finish his tour of the town by covering the south side of Glendale.

It’s typically not hard to find Santa in his travels: he is usually waving merrily to those he sees as he is perched in a SWAT vehicle. Several GPD enforcement vehicles, including several motorcycles, accompany him, lights blazing and sirens blaring. (The social media accounts for the city may have more information as the dates draw near.)

In addition to making sure that Santa makes his Glendale rounds easily, the GPD hopes to make the holidays merrier for those who may not have a lot to share. Donation bins have been placed throughout the area to collect toys that will be distributed within its service area. One of the bins is located in the lobby of the Glendale Area Schools Credit Union.

“We’re collecting for families that might need assistance to have a merry Christmas,” said Wesley Walton, CEO of the credit union. For those who want to make a donation, the bin will be available for donations through Dec. 15 – perhaps longer.

ServiceMaster Commercial Clean in Glendale, a family-run business, is having its first annual toy drive.

According to co-owner Natalie Avakian, “We have partnered with the Salvation Army to bring children the magic of the holidays. We’re aiming to collect new, unwrapped toys for children in need across our community.”

The ServiceMaster Commercial Clean toy drop-off event is on Sunday, Dec. 10 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. at 3521½ Ocean View Blvd. in Sparr Heights/ Glendale.

On Dec. 16 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., CV Park, 3901 Dunsmore Ave., is hosting a toy distribution. The event is open to the public.
