Move on the Horizon for Flintridge Bookstore

By Mary O’KEEFE

The owners of Flintridge Bookstore and Coffeehouse in La Cañada are planning to move their business in February.

“We are just going to a different building, a little smaller than the present one,” said Peter Wannier who, with his wife Lenora, owns the property that houses Flintridge Bookstore and Coffeehouse.

The reason for the move is simple; they sold the building where the store is now located at 1010 Foothill Blvd. in La Cañada.

Alan Pezeshkian of HouseAmerica Financial bought the building and plans to move his business to the La Cañada location.

Wannier said the bookstore will remain in La Cañada, and he does have an idea where they will be moving, but the deal has not been finalized yet. The new location will be smaller and they do not plan on keeping the coffeehouse aspect of the store but they will continue to offer all the other services the community has come to know and expect.

There will be plenty of space for the extensive book titles his store now hosts, and the store’s well-known author talks will continue.

“We plan to continue serving La Cañada Flintridge and the surrounding communities,” Wannier said.

He added the store continues to serve schools.

“We wanted to make sure children had a place for school [reading] and reading for [pleasure],” he said.

The bookstore originally opened in July 2007 with the release of the final book in the Harry Potter series. The store in 2011 moved to its second and current location.

Wannier is anticipating the move to be seamless for his customers, hoping to only be down briefly while they move from one building to another.

“We are not intending to close down for any length of time,” he said.
