Free E-Waste Collection

Community Life/First Baptist Church is hosting a free e-waste collection day on Saturday, Nov. 16 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Enter the parking lot from Mary Street or Community Avenue. Arion Global Inc. [phone (323) 418-2266] is accepting computers, monitors, TVs, cellphones, mp3 players, ink & toner cartridges, printers, microwaves, cables & wires, laptops and all other electronics. The collection cannot accept light bulbs, alkaline batteries, smoke detectors or hazardous waste. 

In 2018, the e-waste generated a donation from Arion Global Inc. of $206.80 for the food pantry Sue’s Garden.

Sheriff Station Rummage Sale

The Crescenta Valley Sheriff’s Station rummage sale is Saturday, Nov. 16 from
7 a.m. to 1 p.m. Variety of items for sale at great prices. Proceeds support the station and the volunteer program.

Water Policy Forum

On Monday, Nov. 18, there will be a forum on water policy hosted by MWD, Burbank, Glendale, Los Angeles, Foothill Municipal water districts and the state assembly. Assemblymember Laura Friedman will be a featured speaker.

It will be held in the Glendale Civic Auditorium from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Rosemont Preserve Open Gate Morning

An “open gate” event is taking place at the Rosemont Preserve on Sunday morning,
Nov. 17. This is a chance for residents to visit the Preserve and wander the trail at their own pace and enjoy the tranquil setting, the wildlife and the natural beauty. Photographers: bring your camera to capture the morning light and citizen scientists, bring your iNaturalist app
to add to wildlife sightings!

The gate will be open from 9 a.m. to
11 a.m., and Friends of the Rosemont Preserve Committee members will be available to answer questions and present this community resource.

The Preserve is located at the north end of Rosemont Avenue, just past the chain link fence. As street parking is limited, please park at Two Strike Park, 5107 Rosemont Ave. Those planning on walking the trails should wear sturdy shoes. 

This event is free to the public and suitable for all ages; no reservations required. Rain cancels. Sorry, no pets please.

Events at Deukmejian Wilderness Park

All are invited on Friday, Nov. 15 to Deukmejian Wilderness Park for the Friday night lecture, “Birds of Prey.” An in-depth look will be taken at hawks, eagles, owls and kestrels and how to spot and appreciate their beauty. This event is free but seating is limited. Please call (818) 548-3795 to RSVP. 

Then on Saturday, Nov. 16, Deukmejian Wilderness Park will host a wilderness workday. Volunteers will rid the park of invasive weeds, and will water and plant new trees. 

Participants should wear sturdy shoes, protective clothing including long pants, hat and sun protection.
