Winemaking History Presented
On, Friday, Nov. 10 Glendale Trails and Open Space will host its second Friday Night Lecture of the year: “Winemaking in the Crescenta/Cañada Valleys: Then and Now” with Stuart Byles (author and winemaker).
This program is for adults only and will cover the history of winemaking in the region and the future of the industry. Participants will meet in the Trails and Open Space Office (Ranch House) at Deukmejian Wilderness Park from 6:30 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. Space is limited and interested participants must RSVP by calling (818) 548-3795.
The Friday Night Lecture Series is sponsored by Avery Dennison (and its corporate office in Glendale).

CVWD Board Meeting Schedule
The following are the scheduled Tuesday meetings for the board of directors of the Crescenta Valley Water District for November through January 2018: Nov. 14, Dec. 12, Jan. 9 and Jan. 23.
Meetings are at 7 p.m. at the CVWD’s administrative office located at 2700 Foothill Blvd., La Crescenta.
The public is encouraged to attend.
Rosemont Preserve Restoration Day
The community is invited to the Rosemont Preserve Restoration Day on Saturday, Nov. 11 from 9 a.m. until 11 a.m. to help protect the natural habitat at Rosemont Preserve. Volunteers will be helping remove some invasive plants and water young trees. Wildflower seeds will also be broadcast to encourage a crop of blooms next spring.
Bring water to drink and wear sturdy shoes, comfortable clothes and garden gloves (long pants and sleeves are recommended). Tools will be available.
The Preserve is located at the north end of Rosemont Avenue, just past the chain link fence. As street parking is limited, please park at Two Strike Park, 5107 Rosemont Ave.
This event is free to the public and suitable for all ages and no reservations required. Rain cancels event. Sorry, no pets please.

Portantino to Host Forum
Senator Anthony J. Portantino and a panel of experts will address the best practices and strategies related to the La Tuna Fire. The forum is on Saturday, Nov. 18 from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. at Woodbury University – Fletcher Jones Auditorium.
Forum presenters will discuss strategies to protect property from mudslides, provide info on evacuating pets and large animals and how the fires have impacted wild animals in the area, discuss details on the ecology of California’s fires and current best practice recommendations on hillside seeding, and offer info on native plants. Followed by Q&A.

E-Waste Collection
Community Life/First Baptist Church is hosting a free E-Waste Collection Day on Saturday, Nov. 18 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Enter the parking lot from Mary or Community streets. The Arion Global Inc. (323) 418-2266 is accepting computers, monitors, TVs, cellphones, mp3 players, ink & toner cartridges, printers, microwaves, cables & wires, laptops and all other electronics. Sorry – no lightbulbs, alkaline batteries, smoke detectors or hazardous waste will be accepted.
The food pantry, Sue’s Garden, will get a financial contribution based on the amount of items collected that have a recycling fee. Last year over 11,000 pounds was collected for a donation of $532 to Sue’s Garden.
