On Monday, Nov. 2 around 1 a.m., a patrol officer conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle for driving straight through the intersection of Western Avenue and Lake Street from a left turn lane and for not having a driver’s side view mirror. The officer contacted the driver, identified as 28-year-old Hamza Shaikh of Northridge, regarding the violations.
The officer discovered Shaikh was currently on probation for illegal drug sales and during the contact observed a semi-automatic pistol magazine in the passenger compartment of the vehicle. Shaikh and the front passenger of the vehicle, identified as 28-year-old Mariana Godinez of Northridge, were detained outside of the vehicle.
Officers located a Tupperware container with methamphetamine inside of it along with multiple small plastic bags of methamphetamine, a methamphetamine pipe and ammunition inside of Godinez’s purse. Godinez was also found to be in possession of approximately $1,000 in cash and several unused small plastic bags.
Upon searching Shaikh and the vehicle officers located heroin, various prescription pills without a prescription, a scale and other evidence of illegal drug sales. Shaikh and Godinez were both placed under arrest for being in possession of controlled substances for sale. Shaikh was also placed under arrest for being a convicted felon in possession of the pistol magazine and ammunition.
Both subjects were booked into custody at the Glendale Police Dept. jail.
