Veterans Day Ceremony Canceled
The American Legion Post 288 and the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Post 1614 have canceled the annual Veterans Day celebration normally held on Nov. 11 at 11 a.m. at Two Strike Park.
Due to the state restrictions on large gatherings due to the COVID-19 pandemic, it is necessary and best for the groups’ membership and the community to cancel this year’s commemoration. However, the membership of the Legion and the VFW and the Military Order of the World Wars (MOWW) will be honoring a number of local older veterans in private ceremonies on this Veterans Day with individual gifts provided by Operation Gratitude.
As in previous years, the Legion and VFW has selected a veteran member to be recognized. This year 97-year-old Angelo Chiarot, a World War II Navy veteran, will be honored.

Annual Shredding Day
Northwest Glendale Homeowners Association will hold its annual shredding day on Saturday, Nov. 7 from 9 a.m. to noon in the parking lot behind Grandview Presbyterian Church, 1130 Ruberta Ave., between Glenoaks and Fifth Street. It is open to all Glendale residents.
A special camera attached to the shredding truck allows participants to view their confidential papers and documents being shredded.
NWGHA members get three boxes free and then it’s $7 per box thereafter. For non-members, it is $7. Northwest residents who join that day will receive the membership discount.
COVID-19 guidelines will be in effect. Put all boxes and bags in the car trunks and staff can unload. Everyone needs to wear masks, especially if leaving their cars, and space needs to be maintained for those watching the shredding process.

Property Tax Collection Scam
Los Angeles County Treasurer and Tax Collector Keith Knox and County Assessor Jeffrey Prang are alerting the public to a property tax scam under the guise of COVID-19 that has been reported to a District Office of the Assessor.
It’s being reported that unknown people are attempting to fraudulently collect in-person property tax payments at taxpayers’ homes because of COVID-19. The individuals may even have fake identification as well as the tax bill for the specific homeowner in question. These individuals allegedly are claiming that the homeowner must pay their property taxes in-person because the COVID-19 pandemic has closed County offices to the public.
“Please note that the County of Los Angeles Treasurer and Tax Collector (TTC) does not conduct in-person visits to collect property tax payments and that any attempts to collect in-person payments are fraudulent,” said Knox.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the TTC and assessor offices are closed to the public and the TTC is not accepting in-person payments. The TTC accept payments online, by mail or over the telephone.
