Spooky Nights in the Crescenta Valley

It’s funny how things change as time passes. It was last week when I told you about the days when I decorated my house in Sun Valley for Halloween, even buying dry ice from Conwin Carbonics to create fog. Our boys were also Halloween-philes (I don’t know if that’s even a word) and helped decorate our house in La Crescenta. We were so extensive in our decorations that neighbors would come by to admire our handiwork.

But the boys have moved on – and moved out – and Steve and I are now those homeowners who don’t decorate at all and, in fact, turn off the lights to our house to discourage trick-or-treaters. The reason? Grandchildren.

We have granddaughters who want to trick-or-treat (or go “Halloweening” as I used to call it) and Grandpa and I wouldn’t miss going with them for the world. On Monday, we started out at our one son’s home where we prepared for cool weather by enjoying a cocktail. Then off to the neighbors’ houses with my granddaughter shouting, “Trick-or-treat!” at every door. So many residents were waiting for the trick-or-treaters to arrive; armed with sweet treats they oohed and ahhed at the costumes that paraded by.

Our baby granddaughter, who did well at the CV Sheriff’s Station’s trunk-or-treat event on Saturday (see below), didn’t last long on Monday. Thankfully her aunt was prepared to carry the sleeping child while our older granddaughter collected candy. (You can see the photo of baby Aubrey online at www.cvweekly.com/NEWS.)

Yes times have changed for the Goldsworthy family. As much as I relish the days gone by I’m having a ball now.
