Relay for Life Kickoff
For those who are returning members or brand new to the Relay family, all are invited to the kickoff meeting of the 2019 Relay for Life of the Foothills at J’s Maintenance tonight, Thursday, Oct. 25 from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. to learn how to get involved! Relay for Life is a community-based fundraising event of the American Cancer Society.

CVCA Meets Tonight
The Crescenta Valley Community Association will have its monthly meeting tonight, Thursday, Oct. 25, at 6:30 p.m. The CVCA is a cross-jurisdictional, volunteer organization that encourages collaboration between community groups so that the Crescenta Valley can be represented with one voice.
All are invited to attend the meeting at the La Crescenta Library at 2809 Foothill Blvd. in the community room (entrance off La Crescenta Avenue).

Gun Buyback
The City of Glendale is hosting an Anonymous Gun Buyback event on Saturday, Oct. 27 from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Civic Center Parking Garage, 650 E. Wilson Ave. in Glendale.
Weapons collected will be checked for lost or stolen status and, if applicable, will be returned the legal owners. Others will be destroyed according to state law requirements.
Participants will be given a Target gift card in exchange for turning in the weapons.

Rosemont Preserve Docent Led Tour
Discover nature’s medicine cabinet right in our own backyards and enjoy a leisurely morning stroll. All are invited on Saturday, Oct. 27 from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. for a program about using Native American healing in a people’s daily lives. Associate professor of Pharmacology and Pharmaceutical Sciences at USC, Dr. James Adams has studied healing with the Chumash Indians, and is an expert on herbal remedies, antioxidants and human drug metabolism.
Learn how to identify native plants and how they can be used for medicinal purposes.
The Preserve is located at the north end of Rosemont Avenue, just past the chain link fence. As street parking is limited, park at Two Strike Park, 5107 Rosemont Ave. Please bring water and a hat and wear sturdy shoes to walk the trail.

Community Disaster Preparedness
On Tuesday, Oct. 30 from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., CV Fire Safe Council and CV Ready are hosting the first of three community disaster preparedness forums at the La Crescenta Library upstairs community room.
In this first session, participants will have the chance to learn what to expect from professional first responders in the event of a major disaster.
Presentations from emergency personnel begin at 7:05 p.m. followed by public works/utilities at 7:45 p.m. After each presentation will be a question and answer segment.

Air Show Coming to Town
The American Heroes Air Show lands once again at the Hansen Dam Sports Complex on Saturday, Nov. 3 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. This admission-free, helicopter-only aviation experience educates the public about rotary-wing capabilities as well as dynamic careers in aviation, law enforcement, military service, emergency preparedness and homeland security.
USCIS hosts a special citizenship ceremony for minors at 10 a.m.

Shredding Event Planned
Everyone who has confidential financial papers and documents, and would like to watch them being shredded, should plan to bring them on Saturday, Nov. 3 to the parking lot of Grandview Presbyterian Church, 1130 Ruberta Ave., between Glenoaks and Fifth Street.
From 9 a.m. to noon, a shredding truck with an attached video camera and screen that allows viewing of the process will be on the premises.
Sponsored by Northwest Glendale Homeowners Assn., the cost is $5 per box. Members of the organization will get three boxes free, then $5 thereafter. Residents who live in the NWGHA area and become members that day will get the members rate.
There is no limit on the number of boxes that can be brought. For further information, call (818) 754-8274.
Tickets on Sale for Prayer Breakfast
Tickets are now on sale for the annual Community Prayer Breakfast planned for Wednesday, Nov. 7 at 7 a.m. at Glendale Civic Auditorium. Featured speaker is Bob Miller, voice of the Los Angeles Kings.
Doors open at 6:30 a.m., breakfast at 7 a.m., program at 7:30 a.m.
