At its Oct. 20 meeting, the La Cañada Flintridge City Council appointed Donald R. Voss to fill the vacant seat on the LCF City Council. Voss was selected to serve the remainder of the vacant term through March 2028 following a public application and interview process conducted by the members of the city council.
A resident of La Cañada Flintridge since 1982, Voss built a successful career in banking before retiring, holding a finance degree from the University of Washington and a graduate degree from Rutgers University’s Stonier Graduate School of Banking. He brings extensive institutional knowledge, financial expertise and a proven track record of local leadership. Voss previously served two four-year terms on the La Cañada Flintridge City Council after being appointed in late 2006 to fill a vacancy. During his tenure, he served as mayor and collaborated on a wide range of regional issues, including trail restoration, freeway sound walls and opposition to the 710 Freeway tunnel. Prior to his time on the city council, Voss served from 2001 to 2006 as the council-appointed city treasurer.
“This person has got to be someone who, I believe, will provide stable and consistent leadership, not only for the Council, but certainly for our community and our city staff to execute all the priorities and tasks that we have given them,” said Mayor Jeanne Kim Hobson during the Oct. 20 meeting. “For me, that person is Don Voss.”
Beyond his municipal roles, his exceptional leadership and volunteer service, which includes serving as a trustee for the La Cañada Flintridge Educational Foundation’s Endowment Fund and chairing the San Gabriel Chapter of the Red Cross Board of Directors, earned him the prestigious “La Cañadan of the Year” award in 2016.
“I am honored by the Council’s decision to allow me the opportunity to be of further service to the City,” said Voss. “I am eager to begin work with my new colleagues in pursuing the goal of protecting and enhancing our quality of life in La Cañada Flintridge.”
The city clerk will officially swear in Voss before the applicable deadline of Nov. 4. A ceremonial oath of office will follow at the next regular city council meeting on Tuesday, Nov. 17 in the city hall council chambers located at One Civic Center Drive. While the meeting begins at 6 p.m., the swearing-in is scheduled as an agenda item; its start time may vary. Members of the public are invited to attend in person or participate by visiting LCF.ca.gov/City-Clerk/Agenda-Minutes or on Charter Spectrum Channels 3 or 16.
