“During an earthquake, many older homes slide and topple because they are not bolted to their foundations,” stated State Senator Anthony Portantino. “The California Geological Survey has mapped dozens of faults throughout our region. On a regular basis, the state maps new faults that cut through multiple towns, landmarks and even individual buildings. These facts should serve as a call to action for all Californians and especially homeowners.
“In my role with the Seismic Safety Commission, it’s part of our mandate to provide the public with cost-effective recommendations to reduce earthquake losses and speed recovery. I’m getting the word out about the California Residential Mitigation Program’s Earthquake Brace + Bolt program available to all Californians with older homes and who reside in high earthquake risk areas.
“Registration is open now and continues through Nov. 29. I strongly encourage all eligible homeowners to apply for this grant funding at EarthquakeBraceBolt.com in order to strengthen the foundation of their homes and help to protect their families. The expanded program has helped thousands of California families safeguard their homes.
“In California, earthquakes are not a matter of if, but when. The more you can be prepared in advance, the better your outcome will be.”
