CV Town Council Meeting
The community is invited to attend the CV Town Council meeting planned for tonight, Oct. 18, at the La Crescenta Library. On the agenda is a presentation by the LA County Public Works Dept.
The meeting begins at 7 p.m. of the library in the community room.

Rain Barrel Truckload Sale and Harvesting Class
Foothill Municipal Water District is offering its customers an opportunity to purchase a rain barrel and pick it up at a one-day distribution event. Rain barrels must be purchased in advance by Oct. 20 and picked up at Lake Avenue Church, 393 N. Lake Ave. in Pasadena. Distribution will be at the parking lot; use the entrance on East Maple Street.
The cost of a rain barrel is $65 but, with rebates offered by the Metropolitan Water District, the cost is $30. The rebate is a one-time rebate submittal and up to two barrels are allowed per household.

Additionally, a Rain Water Harvesting Class is also being offered from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. on the same day/location. Attend the class for a chance to win a Skydrop Smart Irrigation Controller ($250 value) or a rain barrel ($65 value). Discussion topics include rainwater harvesting, installation of a rain barrel, water conservation techniques, benefits of a rain barrel and rebate information.

Rosemont Preserve Open Gate Morning
All are invited for the second monthly “open gate” event at the Rosemont Preserve on Sunday, Oct. 21 from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. This is a chance to visit the Preserve and wander the trail, enjoying the tranquil setting, the wildlife and the natural beauty. Photographers: Bring your camera to capture the early morning light. Citizen scientists: Bring your iNaturalist app to add your wildlife sightings.
Friends of the Rosemont Preserve Committee members will be available to answer questions and show this community resource.
This event is free to the public and suitable for all ages; no reservations required. Rain cancels event. Sorry, no pets please.

The Preserve is located at the north end of Rosemont Avenue, just past the chain link fence. As street parking is limited, park at Two Strike Park, 5107 Rosemont Ave. in La Crescenta.

 

LCF Library Semi-Annual Book Sale
The Friends of the Library (FOL), a volunteer group, will have its semi-annual book sale starting Oct. 24. This event is organized and run by members of the FOL. Monies form the sale of books go to help the library remain a viable part of the community by buying new books, tapes, equipment, improvements, programs, etc.
Become a FOL member at the book sale for a nominal fee and be a part of this active community library.
Sale hours are Wednesday, Oct. 24 (members only) from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., open to public from 2 p.m. until 7 p.m.; Thursday, Oct. 25 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Friday, Oct. 26 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.; Saturday, Oct. 27 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

CVCA Plans Meeting
The Crescenta Valley Community Association will have its monthly meeting on Thursday, Oct. 25 at 6:30 p.m. The CVCA is a cross-jurisdictional, volunteer organization that encourages collaboration between community groups so that the Crescenta Valley can be represented with one voice.
All are invited at the meeting at the La Crescenta Library, 2809 Foothill Blvd., in the community room (entrance off La Crescenta Avenue).

Relay for Life of the Foothills Inaugural Meeting of 2019
For those who are returning members or brand new to the Relay family, all are invited to the kickoff meeting of the 2019 Relay for Life of the Foothills at J’s Maintenance on Oct. 25 from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. to learn how to get involved! Relay for Life is a community-based fundraising event of the American Cancer Society.
