MSP Cable Barrier Construction to be Completed

The construction sites at three Montrose Shopping Park (MSP) intersections are finally scheduled to be completed. Starting today, Monday, Oct. 12, the holes in the ground with the metal plates over them at Verdugo and Honolulu, Oceanview and Honolulu and Wickham Way and Honolulu will soon become our cable barrier installations. These are designed to safeguard against possible vehicular mishaps that could occur during a closed-street event, in particular the Sunday Harvest Market in the 2300 block of Honolulu.

Periodic partial block closures will take place according to the schedule below. The City has managed to get a commitment from E.C. Construction and its vendor to bring two installation crews from North Carolina for cable barrier work. By having two crews available, the original (6) six working days will be cut to half to (3) three working days. The new construction schedule will be as follows:

  • Monday, Oct. 12, 5 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
    5 a.m. – Mobilization: Relocation of K-rails in front of Big Mama’s & Papa’s Pizza. Installation of foundation at Oceanview and Honolulu and Wickham Way and Honolulu intersections (using 4000 PSI mix). Honolulu street closure between Wickham Way and Oceanview.
  • Tuesday, Oct. 13, 5 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
    Installation of foundation at Verdugo and Honolulu intersection (using 4000 PSI mix). Honolulu street closure between Verdugo and Market Street.
  • Wednesday, Oct. 14, 5 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
    5 a.m. to 8 a.m.
    – Installation of cables at Verdugo Road intersection and relocation of K-rails back to original configuration. Periodic street closure between Verdugo and Market Street. Honolulu will be open by 8 a.m.
    8 a.m. to 12 p.m. – Installation of cables at Oceanview and Wickham Way. Periodic street closure between Oceanview and Wickham Way.
    12 noon to 2:30 p.m. – demobilization and clean-up
