COVID Confession
Prior to the pandemic, I dressed on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays in casual business wear – i.e., dress slacks and an appropriate blouse or maybe a dress. On Thursdays and Fridays I usually wore blue jeans and a comfortable shirt. My thinking was that on Thursdays I never knew what I might need to do: unload the rented van of leftover newspapers, deliver papers when a driver didn’t complete his/her route, etc. However, since March 16 I have worn jeans to work just about every day. Initially it was because I didn’t know what duties might fall to me due to COVID-19 and I didn’t want my clothing to be a concern. But as it became clear to me that a) I wouldn’t be getting much traffic in the office and b) not much changed as far as my day-to-day duties I chose to continue to dress “Friday casual” (jeans and a comfortable top).
This week I decided to revert back to my pre-COVID attire and came into the office in slacks and a nice blouse. Our office manager Rachelle didn’t miss the change and, after ensuring that I didn’t have a business lunch or a similar engagement, asked me what my thinking was behind my attire. I explained that I’m the boss and my outfit should reflect that. She pointed out that “pants don’t make the person” and my demeanor speaks volumes as to my competency and identity.
Today I’m back in comfortable jeans and top.
I just hope that I’m not mistaken for the cleanup crew.

Finally, I was shocked and saddened to hear about the attacks on the Republic of Artsakh. Though tensions have always been high between Arsakh and Azerbaijan, the attacks have driven innocents from their homes and created chaos. I’ll be honest: I don’t understand everything about this conflict but what I do comprehend is how many lives have been turned upside down due to these actions. I pray for a quick, equitable and permanent end to this conflict.
