Criminal Infrastructure Attack on Spectrum Fiber Lines in Sunland

Fiber optic lines were intentionally cut by a criminal attack that caused an outage to some customers in Sunland and parts of Tujunga and Sylmar. Spectrum fiber lines do not contain copper.

Spectrum statement on criminal attack of cutting its fiber lines on the morning of Sunday, Sept 27:

“This morning our fiber optic lines were intentionally cut in a criminal attack on our critical infrastructure, resulting in a temporary outage for some residents and businesses in Sunland and surrounding parts of Tujunga and Sylmar. Our teams worked quickly and repaired more than 400 fibers to restore services for affected customers earlier this afternoon.
“Today’s incident follows a number of attacks that have impacted customers. Criminal attacks on communications infrastructure are a growing issue affecting the entire telecommunications industry, not just Spectrum. These acts are not only a crime but threaten public safety. The broader telecommunications industry experienced 18,327 attacks in 2025, a 59% increase since 2024, affecting more than 11.8 million customers across the country.
“We are offering a reward of up to $25,000 for information that leads to an arrest. Anyone with information on this criminal attack can contact Spectrum at 833-404-TIPS(8477) or reach out to local law enforcement.”
