Mixing It Up

Last Thursday, the day of our anniversary issue, CV Weekly held its first-ever business mixer for the Montrose-Verdugo City and Crescenta Valley chambers of commerce. Coming off the intense schedule of producing the anniversary issue and just having general nerves of hosting a party, I was wound tight as the 6 p.m. start time drew near for the mixer.

For those who are unfamiliar, chamber mixers are a chance for local business people and residents to relax and get to know each other and what services are available around town. Typically there’s food and beverage available in a comfortable environment.

The CV Weekly mixer held true to these tenets, offering delicious food from Gourmet a go go, Gail Feeds and Porto’s Bakery. A bar provided wine, beer and non-alcoholic drinks with Hawaiian music playing in the background (we chose a Hawaiian theme). As our guests arrived they were greeted with a lei. It wasn’t long before everyone was talking and having a good time. As with any social function that CV Weekly hosts, it couldn’t have happened without help. Matt Allen from the CV Chamber and Victoria Malone and her crew from the Montrose-Verdugo City chamber were awesome – they welcomed everyone warmly and kept things moving. Lisa Stanners, Sonya Marquez, Mary O’Keefe and Rachelle Miller from my office were essential to the success of the event, making sure there was plenty of food and drinks for our guests. Thank you, all!

Sonya Marquez and Robin Goldsworthy.

As nervous as I was for our party, that’s how excited I am for this Saturday’s 135th anniversary celebration of La Crescenta. Hosted by the Crescenta Valley Town Council and the Historical Society of the Crescenta Valley, the anniversary party is being held on the historic grounds of St. Luke’s of the Mountains. CVTC President Harry Leon is spearheading the event and I’m sure it’s going to be epic. There will be food, entertainment and more. Tickets are $60 each, but seating is limited. To make sure you’re part of this one-of-a-kind party, get your tickets by contacting Jo Ann at (818) 269-3295 or Harry at (818) 464-5870. I’ve got mine!
