South Coast AQMD is continuing its smoke advisory through Monday afternoon due to wildfire smoke affecting most of South Coast AQMD’s jurisdiction.
Meteorological conditions will bring smoke and ash into portions of Los Angeles, Orange, San Bernardino and Riverside Counties due to the Bobcat Fire and El Dorado Fire. Smoke carried from the fires in Central and Northern California may also contribute to elevated levels of PM2.5 and PM10. Unhealthy or higher AQI levels are possible in areas of direct smoke impacts, particularly those close to the fires.
Please note: Skies may look smoky and ashfall may be present in areas with good to moderate AQI levels. This is because ash is heavier and falls quicker than smoke. Smoky skies are due to the fact that the smoke often stays high without reaching ground level where it can be breathed in. That said, South Coast AQMD always encourages those who smell smoke or see ash to limit exposure by remaining indoors with windows and doors closed or to seek alternate shelter and avoid vigorous physical activity.
Residents are able to check their air quality in real time by using the South Coast AQMD app (www.aqmd.gov/mobileapp) which is now also available in Spanish, or by viewing the AQI map found at the bottom of the www.AQMD.gov homepage.
