Afternoon Fire Results in SIG Alert

Los Angeles City Fire Dept. responded to a traffic accident in the Eagle Rock area at 1:39 p.m. this afternoon. When units arrived they found a vehicle on fire that extended into the vegetation to the south of Broadway Avenue. Winds carried embers to the north side of Broadway Avenue, which started spot fires. Firefighters’ ground crews and helicopter water drops were able to get a handle on the fire quickly. There has been no reports of injuries and no structures threatened, according to the LAFD spokesman.

The fire is contained in the Eagle Rock area and the City of Glendale is not threatened, said Eliza Papazian, spokeswoman for Glendale.

As of 3:11 p.m. there was a SIG alert for the northbound Glendale (2) Freeway and eastbound Burbank (134) Freeway connector. California Highway Patrol estimates the road will open at about 4:11 p.m., according to Officer Vince Ramirez, CHP.
