For the last few years some seniors at Crescenta Valley High School participated in Senior Sunrise.

“Traditionally seniors would gather at the [track] and field on the Sunday before the first day of [senior] school starts,” said Adrienne Griffin, mom of a CVHS senior this school year.

But due to COVID-19 and remote learning, gathering for Senior Sunrise was not possible. Griffin wanted to do something to excite seniors as they begin this final phase of their K through 12 academic career so she started a Facebook page titled Parent of Senior Class of 2021. She had a strong response from parents who felt the same as she did about this year’s senior class.

The first thing they decided to tackle was the Senior Sunrise. The parents worked together and created a mural that included all the names of the senior class. Griffin is an artist by trade and was able to create a sunset motif banner. It was installed on the north wall of the American Legion Hall at 4011 La Crescenta Ave. Seniors are invited to come to the mural and take a photo in front it prior to the first day of school on Aug. 19. The mural will be up until Tuesday, tomorrow, late afternoon for any seniors who would like their photo taken.

Lorna Simon, a participating parent, had reached out to several locations, including CVHS, to place the mural but had no success. The American Legion Post 288 was then contacted. Organizers there immediately said yes.

CVW will have an extended story in this coming Thursday edition.
