Cobb Estate on HSCV Agenda
The Cobb Estate property in Altadena, a popular trailhead for Rubio Canyon, Mt. Lowe and the Sam Merrill Trail, will be the focus of the Aug. 21 meeting of the Historical Society of the Crescenta Valley.
The property is the site of an unsuccessful gold mine and was the grand estate and mansion of a northwest timber baron, a former Masonic retirement home and a retreat house for Roman Catholic nuns.
Altadena Historical Society member Pam Wright will share the fascinating history of the property.
The meeting is at 7 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 21, at the Center for Spiritual Living-La Crescenta, 4845 Dunsmore Ave. in La Crescenta.
American Legion Hosts Bingo
Tomorrow, Friday, Aug. 18, American Legion Post 288 and VFW Post 1614 are hosting a bingo night at Healy Hall at Holy Redeemer Church. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. with the first game at 7 p.m. The cost is $15 for 40 chances to win $100! CVTC MEETS TONIGHT
The Crescenta Valley Town Council meets tonight, Thursday, Aug. 17 at 7 p.m. at the La Crescenta Library community room.
On the agenda are the results of the outdoor lighting survey and a visit from Glendale Community College Superintendent/President Dr, David Viar .
All are invited to attend.
The library is located at 2809 Foothill Blvd. in La Crescenta.
Two Right to Lease Meetings Planned
The City of Glendale will host two community meetings on Saturday, August 19 to solicit input on the proposed Right to Lease ordinance. Feedback received will be brought before the Glendale City Council for consideration. People interested in learning more about the ordinance, or those with concerns and suggestions, are encouraged to attend one of these two meetings.
The first meeting is being held from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. and the second from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. Both are at Pacific Community Center, 501 S. Pacific Ave. in Glendale.

Rosemont Preserve Open Gate
All are invited for another open gate event on Sunday morning, Aug. 20 from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. This
is a chance for community members to visit the Preserve and wander the trail at their own pace, enjoying the tranquil setting, the wildlife and the natural beauty. Photographers, bring your camera to capture the early morning light.
Friends of the Rosemont Preserve Committee members will be available to answer questions.
The Preserve is located at the north end of Rosemont Avenue, just past the chain link fence. As street parking is limited, it is requested that visitors park at Two Strike Park, 5107 Rosemont Ave. Please bring water and wear sturdy shoes to walk the trail.
This event is free to the public and suitable for all ages, no reservations required. Rain cancels event. Sorry, no pets please.

Target Moving into Town Center
According to reports, a Target store will be moving into the vacant former Sport Chalet site in the La Cañada Town Center. Sport Chalet closed in 2016.
As of 2016, there were 1,802 Target stores nationwide except for in the state of Vermont.
Information as to a possible opening date for the La Cañada store was unavailable as of press time.
CVW made several calls to the City of La Cañada planning and the city manager’s office without response.
