Cleanup Canceled

The monthly off-ramp cleanup of the 210 Freeway at La Crescenta Avenue scheduled for Aug. 13 has been canceled.

The construction is still going on and the slope areas are dug up and uneven creating a hazard for volunteers.

 

Bingo Tickets Available

Tickets for the Aug. 19 bingo game benefitting the veteran groups American Legion Post 288 and VFW Post 1614 are now on sale. Tickets are $20 each; that is for bingo cards and daubers. Additional bingo cards will be on sale.

Purchase tickets at the CV Chamber office, 3131 Foothill Blvd. ‘D’; La Crescenta (limited office hours) and the offices of Crescenta Valley Weekly, 3800 La Crescenta Ave. #206; La Crescenta between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m.

 

Rosemont Preserve Restoration Day

The community is invited to the Rosemont Preserve Restoration Day on Saturday, Aug. 13 from 8 a.m. until 10 a.m. to help protect the natural habitat at Rosemont Preserve. Volunteers will be weeding the demonstration garden and removing invasive plants that pose a fire danger to the Preserve.

Wear sturdy shoes, comfortable clothes and garden gloves (long pants and sleeves are recommended). Tools will be available.

The Preserve is located at the north end of Rosemont Avenue, just past the chain link fence. As street parking is limited, park at Two Strike Park, 5107 Rosemont Ave. Those with mobility issues who require a closer parking spot should contact RosemontFriends@gmail.com.

This event is free to the public and suitable for all ages and no reservations required. Rain cancels event. Sorry, no pets please.

Veterans Host Monthly Breakfast

Local veterans host a monthly breakfast at the Verdugo Hills Memorial Hall on the second
Saturday of the month. The breakfast is free to all local veterans and supporters, but donations are always graciously accepted. This month’s breakfast is on Saturday, Aug. 13 from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m.

This month the breakfast is being held in conjunction with a fundraiser for an Eagle Scout project to be held at and for the Memorial Hall. Eagle Scout candidate Emelia Lagousis will be at the breakfast to promote her project scheduled for August and September of this year. The Hall is located at 4011 La Crescenta Ave.

 

Free Paper Shredding

The Glendale Police Dept. is hosting a free paper shredding event on Saturday, Aug. 13 from 9 a.m. to noon. The event, sponsored by Apex Home Loans, is for confidential documents only; no magazines or junk mail, and no binder clips or electronics.

Drivers should remain in their vehicle while it is being unloaded by staff; however, parking is available for those who want to watch their documents be shredded. Limit five boxes per vehicle.

Also being collected are nonperishable food items that will be donated to local food pantries.

CVIM Clothing Drive

Crescenta Valley Instrumental Music is having a clothing drive fundraiser to support the instrumental music program at CVHS. The clothing drive is Saturday, Aug. 13 from 9 a.m. to noon and Sunday, Aug. 14 from 10 a.m. to noon in the CV band parking lot in the 4300 block of Ramsdell Avenue.

Needed are gently used clothing items including shoes, accessories and linens (sheets, blankets, bedding, etc.; no under garments).

Donors should bag items in large white kitchen bags labeled CVIM.
