CVCA Meeting to be Held Tonight

The Crescenta Valley Community Association will have their monthly meeting tonight, July 23 at 7:00 PM via Zoom.  On the agenda is a discussion/presentation on two proposed building projects on Honolulu and Montrose Avenues, as well as other land-use issues in the Crescenta Valley.  Contact the CVCA at crescentavalleycommunityassn@gmail.com with questions and for Zoom meeting information.

 

 

Speeding, Dangerous Drivers Focus of Council

Crescenta Valley Town Council is working with law enforcement regarding community concerns including drivers speeding up and down Briggs, La Crescenta and Ramsdell avenues. In addition, the Council is working with law enforcement to cite drivers performing illegal U-turns along Foothill Boulevard. CVTC President Harry Leon spoke of a recent incident of a family that came very close to being hit by a vehicle that was making an illegal U-turn on Foothill near Ramsdell.

 

 

QPR Session Announced

Glendale Unified School District – Student Wellness Services presents QPR – Questions, Persuade, Refer – designed to teach participants the warning signs of suicide and how to actively ask and respond to a person in crisis. QPR is not intended to be a form of counseling or treatment, but a preventive tool to raise awareness among the community. The next planned session is Thursday, July 30 from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. via Zoom.

Rosemont Preserve Cancellation

In order to comply with LA County recommendations to not gather in groups on trails, the decision was made to cancel the scheduled docent tour of the Rosemont Preserve on Saturday, July 25.

 

 

Rose Parade Canceled

The traditional New Year’s Day Tournament of Roses Parade in Pasadena has been canceled. In a statement released by Tournament officials it was with “reluctance and tremendous disappointment” that the decision was made in accordance with Gov. Newsom’s Phase IV re-opening schedule.

Rep. Adam Schiff will host a telephone town hall at 7 p.m. on  July 30 to discuss the nation’s response to COVID-19, the economic and unemployment crisis facing families, and how to ensure the student safety in the fall. Schiff will also discuss issues such as unemployment benefits, support for small businesses and how his office can assist. To join directly, constituents should call (855) 408-1340. The telephone town hall will include LAUSD board member Jackie Goldberg and UCLA’s Dr. Robert Kim-Farley.

Bank Branches Temporarily Close

Local branches of Bank of America were temporarily closed due to COVID-19 exposure. The branch at 3141 Foothill Blvd. in La Crescenta will reopen on July 26; the Montrose branch at 2320 Honolulu Ave. will reopen on July 28. The ATMs at the locations are being monitored. It is suggested that those with EDD cards transfer the funds from the EDD card to their BofA account, then access the funds via the ATM.

Glendale to Host Panel on Racism: Past & Present

The City of Glendale will present a virtual panel discussion on racism: past and present on Thursday, July 30 at 6:30 p.m.

Panelists will include Steven Nelson (moderator), dean of the Center for Advanced Study in the Visual Arts at the National Gallery of Art, Washington, D.C., Safiya Umoja Noble, associate professor of Information Studies at UCLA where she also serves as the co-director of the Center for Critical Internet Inquiry, Hannibal B. Johnson, Esq., Harvard Law School, who is a member of the federal 400 Years of African American History Commission and Gary Keyes, Southern California native and a retired professor, having taught at Glendale Community College (GCC), Pasadena City College, and Crescenta Valley High School for over 40 years.
