Independence Day Closure

The offices of CV Weekly will be closed all day today, Thursday, July 4 and will close at 1 p.m. on Friday, July 5 for the Independence Day holiday.

Rosemont Preserve Open Gate Afternoon

An “open gate” event is taking place at the Rosemont Preserve on Saturday morning, July 6. This is a chance for residents to visit the Preserve and wander the trail at their own pace and enjoy the tranquil setting, the wildlife and the natural beauty. Photographers: bring your camera to capture the morning light and citizen scientists, bring your iNaturalist app to add to the wildlife sightings.

The gate will be open from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m., and hosts will be available to answer questions and present this community resource.

The Preserve is located at the north end of Rosemont Avenue, just past the chain link fence. As street parking is limited, please park at Two Strike Park, 5107 Rosemont Ave. Those planning on walking the trails should wear sturdy shoes. 

This event is free to the public and suitable for all ages; no reservations required. Rain cancels. Sorry, no pets please.

Old Pasadena Walking Tour

On Saturday, July 6 and July 20 from 9 a.m. to 11: 15 a.m. Pasadena Heritage is hosting a walking tour. The Old Pasadena Walking Tour lets participants discover one of the finest examples of downtown revitalization in the country. A trained docent leads the tour through the historic district and reveals its many hidden and unusual architectural details, old alleyways and historic signs. 

Tickets are $18 Pasadena Heritage members, $20 for non-members.

Library Changes

Beginning July 1, and in keeping with leading library practices, fines for children’s and teen materials will be eliminated at all Glendale Library, Arts & Culture locations. Children, teens, and parents will still be expected to bring their library materials back in a timely manner and will be charged replacement costs for the items that are not returned.

In addition, service hours at four Glendale Library, Arts & Culture locations changed as of July 1. The new service hours at the

Montrose Library, 2465 Honolulu Ave., are Monday – Thursday, 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.; Saturday, noon to 5 p.m.; Friday and Sunday, closed. For more information, call (818) 548-2048.

Armenian American Museum Gains from State Budget

California Governor Gavin Newsom signed the 2019-20 state budget with $5 million included for the Armenian American Museum. The 2019-20 budget provides $4 million in new funding for the museum and $1 million in reallocated funding. The approval brings the State of California’s total investment in the museum to $8 million.

Governor Newsom proposed the new funding for the developing cultural and educational center in the May revise of his 2019-20 budget proposal following a successful meeting between the governor’s office and museum leadership.
