Weather in the Foothills

“Everything good, everything magical happens between the months of June and August.”

~ Jenny Han, American author of fiction for children and young adults

Congratulations to the Class of 2019! On Tuesday of this week the soon-to-be graduates of Crescenta Valley High School and Clark Magnet High School began lining up for their respective ceremonies at precisely the same time of 4:30 p.m.; the commencement programs began at 5:30.

It has been 10 years since our youngest graduated. Fond memories returned as I glanced at the clock on Tuesday afternoon. But reminiscing was cut short when I noticed the outside temperature … 102 degrees! Due to a late in the day offshore flow of heat off the desert, the high for the day was late in arriving. The first day of summer vacation, or life beyond high school, whether it was hot and sunny or cool and foggy, was the start of a grand adventure for us.

On a much smaller scale, for the House finch hatchlings nesting in a basket on our front door, it’s almost time to try out those wings. Yes, the five blue eggs have hatched!

A pleasant flow of cool marine air is expected to impact our weather into next week. Soon we’ll look with longing back at these often gloomy days of June
