‘A Quest For Happiness’ Offered at Twelve Oaks

D.V. Pillai, M.D. will make a presentation on “A Quest for Happiness” at Twelve Oaks Senior Living on Thursday, June 27 at 5 p.m.

Dr. Pillai has over 30 years experience in the field of adult and geriatric psychiatry. He is the senior medical director at the Geropsych Unit at USC-Verdugo Hills Hospital. Dr. Pillai is also the president of Chinmaya Mission. Its mission is to provide individuals from any background the wisdom of Vedanta and the practical means for spiritual growth and happiness, enabling them to become positive contributors to society.

Blood Drive Planned

The Glendale Chapter of National Charity League, Inc. will hold its 13th annual “From the Heart” American Red Cross Blood Drive on Sunday, June 23 from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. It will be held at USC Verdugo Hills Hospital in council rooms A-D. The summer is a time when blood supplies are very low and donors are urgently needed. Members of the community are encouraged to make an appointment to donate by emailing fromtheheart@nclglendale.org, or by signing up on the American Red Cross San Gabriel-Pomona Valley website. Donors are welcomed by the Chapter’s mother and daughter members and, upon leaving, are thanked with a bag of home make cookies and treats.

Chamber Prepares for Golf Tournament

The Crescenta Valley Chamber of Commerce is hosting its annual golf tournament at Scholl Canyon Golf Course on Friday, June 21 starting at 7 a.m. with registration and shotgun start at 8:30 a.m. Prizes include a new Toyota, a three-day Baja cruise or $10,000 in cash. Entry fee includes 18 holes of golf, two-person cart, bucket of range balls, goodie bag, refreshments on the course and a lunch of steak and salmon followed by trophy presentation and raffle prizes. Entry fees are $125 for a single player and a team of four costs $440.

Those wanting to check out Scholl Canyon Golf Course are invited to attend the chamber mixer tonight, Thursday, June 13 at 6 p.m. Entry fee is $10 for members and $15 for non-members. Guests can bring their own clubs for a free bucket of range balls. There will also be a putting contest, raffle prizes and refreshments.

Rosemont Preserve Open Gate Events

Two “open gate” events are taking place at the Rosemont Preserve on Saturday, June 15 from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and Sunday, June 16 from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. This is a chance for residents to visit the Preserve and wander the trail at their own pace and enjoy the tranquil setting, the wildlife and the natural beauty. Photographers: bring your camera to capture the morning and afternoon light and citizen scientists, bring your iNaturalist app to add to the wildlife sightings.

On Saturday, interns from Arroyos & Foothills Conservancy will be available to answer questions and present this community resource. On Sunday, Friends of the Rosemont Preserve Committee members will be on-site.

The Preserve is located at the north end of Rosemont Avenue, just past the chain link fence. As street parking is limited, please park at Two Strike Park, 5107 Rosemont Ave. Those planning on walking the trails should wear sturdy shoes. 

This event is free to the public and suitable for all ages; no reservations required. Rain cancels. Sorry, no pets please.
