Fatality in Officer Involved Shooting

On June 8 at approximately 9:04 p.m., Glendale Police Dept. patrol officers responded to a report of an assault involving a knife that had just occurred in the 3700 block of Honolulu Avenue.

Upon arrival, officers located a victim, age 61, who had sustained injuries consistent with an assault involving a knife. The suspect, age 58, was a neighbor of the victim. He exited a nearby residence armed with a knife. When confronted by officers, the suspect fled on foot. Officers pursued the suspect on foot for a short distance.

During the pursuit, the suspect turned and advanced toward the pursuing officers while still armed with the knife. An officer-involved shooting subsequently occurred.

The suspect was pronounced deceased at the scene. No officers were injured during the incident.

The victim was transported to a local hospital for treatment of injuries that appeared to be non-life-threatening.

The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner’s Office was notified and responded to the scene. Detectives from the Glendale Police Dept.’s Robbery-Homicide Unit also responded and are investigating the incident.

This remains an active and ongoing investigation. Additional information will be released as it becomes available.
